AbstractIncreased end-user access to remote collections can be obtained by creating new focused collaborations among resource-sharing professionals. This paper will describe a model for collection integration as demonstrated by CISTI’s partnerships with libraries in China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. By leveraging technology upgrades from Innovative Interfaces Inc. (III)’s online library catalogue, Japanese, Korean and Chinese (CJK) alphabets are displayed which ensures greater accuracy in searching, document discovery, delivery and integration into the document delivery workflow. The rationale behind the partnerships and the technical collaborations that led to successfully loading CJK Marc records, as well as the impacts and benefits this initiative has had on our collection; clients and Far East Partners will be described. In addition, this collection-sharing model has resolved the problem of transliterated titles, which improves the precision, and accuracy of searching and identifying titles in non-Latin based languages. Positive client feedback and usage of this CISTI gateway to Far East research literature has confirmed this strategy of easy seamless integrated access. |
